Look for the Gear Up Maupin (GUM) sign at the corner of Highway 197 and Elrod Ave. There is some perpendicular parking available in front of the brown house at the corner of HWY 197 and Elrod (do not parallel park here). If you have a larger vehicle or the parking area is full, park on the side streets of Elrod or 2nd St. If you park up above, please go down the stairs on the left hand side of the deck. The GUM showroom is across the drive from the brown house. Do not park in the driveway.
Bookings can be made on-line or in the showroom at 206 Elrod.
Paula fell in love with the history and culture of the Maupin area in the mid-’90s while reading Jane Kirkpatrick’s books, a “Sweetness to the Soul” and “Love to Water My Soul.” A few years later, she was introduced to river rafting in Maupin and has enjoyed rafting, camping, hiking, and fishing in the region and throughout the Pacific Northwest ever since. More than 24 years later, she still tingles with excitement as she winds down the Deschutes River canyon and the sparkling river finally comes into view.
Paula was an active mountain biker from her early twenties through mid-forties, but rafting, family and her career were higher priorities in recent years. With the injury of her life partner, the idea for a bike and gear rental shop was born. They are eager to establish Gear Up Maupin this summer and share their passion for exploring the abundant beauty and recreation in this spectacular region.
They are excited to rent E-Bikes to locals and visitors that want to explore the area without the encumbrance of a windshield and gas motor.
Sunrise and Sunset Rides available by appointment.
