Safety

Learn about our safety requirements. Enjoy your adventure with peace of mind.

You are Required to Watch This Video Before Renting

Remember to review all bike riding safety rules and the E-bike safety video before your arrival. You must wear a bike helmet while riding; helmets are provided. You are strongly encouraged to wear high visibility clothing which can be purchased at our store if you don’t have any. You must obey all rules of the road and ride in a safe manner. You must be at least 19 years of age and bring a photo ID for your rental. Our bikes are for 1 rider only–no passengers allowed.

All of our bikes are equipped with rear view mirrors. You will be sharing the roads with cars, rafting vehicles and trailers. There is also truck traffic on the highway. It is important to watch for oncoming traffic as well as regularly checking your mirror. Make sure to park the bicycle off the road and out of the way of traffic if you stop to take in the scenery and geology.

All bikes are equipped with kickstands. Make sure to use the kickstand and ensure that is on stable ground so the bike doesn’t tip over. Preventing theft will be your responsibility. If you plan to leave the bike unattended, you must lock it. Locks are available at Gear Up Maupin.

Be Mindful of Speed

Adjust your speed based on the road conditions, traffic, and your riding experience. Always maintain a safe and controllable speed.

Brake Responsibly

Apply the brakes smoothly and evenly, avoiding sudden or excessive braking that can lead to loss of control.

Stay Alert and Aware

Keep your attention focused on the road ahead, scanning for potential hazards, pedestrians, and other vehicles. Avoid distractions such as using mobile devices while riding. Use your rear view mirror to watch traffic coming from behind.

Cell Phones

Cell phone service can be spotty outside of the city center, so make sure to have a safety plan in place. Be sure your cell phone is fully charged.

Be Cautious of Weather Conditions

Adjust your riding plans based on weather conditions. Rain, snow, or strong winds can affect your visibility and bike control. Dress accordingly.

Warm-up activities

Before you start riding an e-bike, warming up can help prepare your body, prevent injuries, and improve your riding performance. Warm-ups can include some easy aerobic exercise, such as brisk walking or jogging, to increase your heart rate and blood circulation. Additionally, perform some joint mobilization and stretching exercises to relax your muscles and increase joint flexibility.

Stay hydrated

It is very important to maintain good hydration while riding an e-bike. When you ride, you can lose a lot of water through sweat, so maintaining a hydration balance is crucial to maintaining body function and cycling performance. Make sure you are well hydrated before riding and drink water or other suitable beverages at regular intervals during the ride. Depending on the intensity of your ride and the temperature, you may need to drink some fluids every 15 to 30 minutes. Avoid excessive dehydration, which can lead to fatigue, muscle cramps and other health problems. You can purchase electrolyte supplements at the Gear Up Maupin showroom.
